Iowa saw a red tsunami.

Iowa Republicans won big on Election Night, but the "red wave" was a red ripple nationally.

Tuesday night was an incredible night for Iowa Republicans. The state is officially firmly red. We can no longer view Iowa as a swing state. A red tsunami washed over the state.

Let's recap the night.

  • Republicans hold all six federal offices for the first time in 68 years (HT to Andrew Batt of Iowa Press for that historical nugget). U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley won reelection. U.S. Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Ashley Hinson, and Randy Feenstra were reelected, and State Senator Zach Nunn, R-Bondurant, defeated U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne, D-West Des Moines, in Iowa's 3rd Congressional District. She was Iowa Democrats' lone representative in Washington, D.C.

  • Gov. Kim Reynolds won handily.

  • Republicans won, at minimum, four of Iowa's five statewide down-ballot executive offices. Secretary of State Paul Pate and Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig easily won reelection. Brenna Bird defeated long-time incumbent Attorney General Tom Miller, and Roby Smith defeated long-time incumbent State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald. Republicans could pick up the state auditor's office as well. Incumbent Democrat Rob Sand currently leads Republican Todd Halbur, but it is close, and two counties still need to complete their vote count. We should know more later today.

  • Republicans expanded their already big majorities in the Iowa House and Iowa Senate. (If you missed it, read my Tuesday morning recap of the races.)
